The wind blows in a different direction today, the waves pull back and the birds bristle on their branches. There is something coming. Something amazing.

Hi! My name is Eman Rashid, A second year Mechanical Engineering student, the Art Club President, and most importantly, someone who has walked the halls of Heriot Watt University in all its glory, and think it’s finally time to bring back our university’s prime.

It started a bit like a small little party didn’t it, this quarantine? And now here we are, some trying to hold on to fraying threads of friendship, while the others reach out blindly to grasp even the smallest light of hope- which flickers like flames in a howling gale.

But fear not! Because at the essence of it, my goal is to knit back the threads of friendship, blow out the candles- and switch on the lights! While there is a certain thrill in being dramatic and wallowing in our misery, it is certainly much more exciting to get up, get going and finally reach out and connect. 

I aim to connect each and every one of us - be it the bright, crisp freshers, or the ones who know the university like the back of their hand. Each one of needs little pauses and breaks- opportunities to grow, to adapt, to connect with the life around us-until each inhale fills us up with the vibrancy of existence, and each exhale feels freeing.

With me as the executive of events, all ideas will be on the table, all days will be filled with a little bit of sparkle, all nights filled with a breathless, eager dreams- dreams that I plan to make reality. 

The distance between dreams and reality is action- and it's time we took some.
