Im Mathew George, a 4th year accounting and finance student and also the current executive for Wellbeing in the student council. I'm running for the position of Student President this year. The coming academic year is an especially significant one as we are moving into the new campus which will definitely present us with a new set of challenges and opportunities. As someone who already knows about the functioning of the council, I believe I'm the right candidate to lead our student body in this period of transition.
Priorities
1. Increasing engagement of new students in university activities- As much as we wanted to, we were not able to engage freshers and juniors enough in activities held by the university. My biggest aim would be to ensure that all students get to socialize and engage in events and activities that they would like to see in university which will be held virtually and physically the coming year. It's important no junior or fresher feels left out as new students haven't got the opportunity to interact much with the student body due to the pandemic restrictions.
2. Formation of various new Clubs- The constitution of the university allow students to form new clubs in the university at the start of the academic year in September, provided they get the approval from the council. As many students have enquired about starting new clubs like Chess Club, Film Society, Debating Club etc, it will be priority to facilitate the formation of as many clubs as possible this year so every student has someting to be part of.
3. Ensuring that post graduate and PHD students have their voice heard- These students form an important part of our university and it will be ensured that there will be regular interactions with the PG and PHD students to ensure their concerns are heard.
4. Provision for students to directly voice their concerns to the student council- Students will be encouraged and promoted to regularly interact with the student council to raise their concerns periodically. This is important because every student should find the student council accessible to share their problems and suggestions as the Student Council represents the voice of the Students.
