Hi everyone,

My name is Khushi Popat, and I am a third-year Computer Science student. I am standing for the position of Sports Executive at Heriot-Watt. 

Sports has been an integral part of my life and shaped me to be who I am today. At Heriot-Watt, I am a member of the dragon boating club and the athletics club. I am also a part of the competitive athletics team at the university. 

Through the position of Sports Executive, I aim to:

1. Make the various sports clubs at Heriot-Watt more inclusive by including the postgraduate students in the training sessions of the sports clubs of their choice.

2. Increase participation in events - With the COVID-19 restrictions finally easing, I am sure the sports clubs are eager to participate in inter-university competitions. Along with inter-university competitions, I would also encourage students to participate in non-competitive events, such as Walk For Diabetes, or a charity run for cancer, etc. 

3. Hold games sessions- Sports clubs aren't just about exercise. They are also about fun, and one way of incorporating elements of fun is by gathering all the students and faculty to play simple games like catch and dodgeball. It would increase bonding in students and faculty and help everyone be healthier and happier.

4. Be a point of approachability for students to communicate their needs and wants, listen to feedback about the changes suggested, and relay them to the people who can make a change.

The position of a Sports Executive is undoubtedly not an easy one, and I fully understand the responsibilities it brings along with itself. I do believe I am capable of honoring the position and fulfilling the duties of the role.
